Walt Goodridge presents

Saipan is an island in the Western Pacific that's part of a 15-island chain known as the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, or C.N.M.I., for short. This (“the CNMI”) is typically how residents on any of the permanently populated islands (Saipan, Tinian and Rota) refer to it; as in “Life is great here in the CNMI...” or by individual island names, as in “I miss Rota!”
Even though it's one of the best kept secrets when it comes to its relationship to the US, many Americans live, work and vacation here and many consider it an option for spending their retirement.
My name is Walt Goodridge, an author, blogger, former civil engineer, host of the DiscoverSaipan Youtube channel and Saipan resident since 2006 when I made my escape from New York! I'll share more about myself in a minute! Meanwhile, let me know if this 1-minute video resonates with you!
🧳 Thinking About Moving

Get accurate, up-to-date information & avoid costly mistakes
Living here since 2006, I've learned the local lore, culture and history; I've written books, launched websites and become a de-facto expert sharing my observations.
This relocation guide offers a compilation of years of answers to questions I’ve received almost every day from people who've read my books or visited my websites and who are considering moving to Saipan to live, work, start businesses, rent property, escape the rat race, get married, retire or live a different lifestyle.
The answers I provide reflect my own perspective as well as the wisdom and experience of others who’ve lived here even longer than I have. They touch on nearly all aspects of Saipan living, but with enough information omitted to allow you the thrill of discovery at your own pace as part of your own adventure! With that said, let’s start with the truth!

One of the biggest frustrations new arrivals face is figuring out what to do first, which forms to fill out, and where to go.
Solution: a sequenced collection of local forms, applications, and resources as well as the step-by-step checklist I share during my relocation tours. It’s designed to help new arrivals “hit the ground running” with local ID and PO Box applications, driver's license exchange forms, bank account fee summaries, tax forms, housing leads, and more, plus my insider notes on how to navigate each step with confidence
Note: All except a few forms in this kit are publicly available. What you’re investing in is the time-saving convenience of having them curated in one place — plus my explanations and expert guidance so you can avoid mistakes and delays.

Diary of a Chinese Garment Factory Girl on Saipan by Chun Yu Wang & Walt Goodridge
It took a lot of courage for a 25-year-old girl from Wu Xi City in Jiang Shu province, China, who had never flown on a plane, and who had never left home before, to travel 2,000 miles to a foreign country in search of work. It took even more courage to stay once she discovered what life was really like for a factory girl on the island of Saipan in the US Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).

A Battle of Saipan & Battle of Guam Veteran's Memoirs by Lloyd Glick as told to Walt Goodridge
On Dec 7, 1941, Lloyd Glick was a naive 18-year-old watching a movie in downtown Berkeley CA theater, when they stopped the movie to announce Japan’s bombing of Pearl Harbor. Four months later, with his parents’ signed permission, he joined the US Navy. From Bugle Boy to Battleship is Lloyd’s fascinating account of his two years at sea in the Pacific Theater, as well as his return to visit the island of Saipan 70 years later.

A Tour Supplement by Walt Goodridge
Contrary to what we've been led to believe, famed aviator Amelia Earhart & her navigator Fred Noonan were actually captured by the Japanese military after the Lockheed Elektra crash landed in the Marshalls. Ultimately, the two prisoners were taken to Saipan where Noonan was beheaded, and where Amelia died of dysentary in “the Old Japanese Jail.” That story, told throughout the Pacific, plus eye witnesses and key site locations are included in this souvenir booklet.

The True Story of One Man's Escape from the Rat Race to Live a Nomadpreneur's Dream! (A Travel Guide For the Rest of Us!) by Walt F.J. Goodridge
Once upon a time, there was a Jamaican civil engineer living in New York City who hated his job. He followed his passion, started a sideline business publishing his own books, quit his job, escaped the rat race, ran off to a tropical island in the Pacific, and started a business so he could show off the island to pretty girls every day! He now lives a nomadpreneur’s dream life, while helping others do the same! This is his story:
I am
a resident since 2006
the author of several books about Saipan
a writer for the Marianas Variety & Saipan Tribune (defunct)
a tour guide since 2008 (WWII, cultural, logistics)
featured in several documentaries about Saipan
the recipient of a Senate Resolution for contributions to CNMI society
the recipient of 3 Governor's Humanities Awards
recipient of numerous positive TripAdvisor reviews
I've helped dozens I know about and possibly hundreds relocate!
